Why people here call us
Vancouver homeowners rarely call us about shade. They call about rain — about a deck that gets used three months a year and sits empty for the other nine. Most of what we build in the city is aimed squarely at that: covered patios, glass and polycarbonate roofs, and sunrooms that keep the daylight and lose the weather.
Atlas Sun Systems has been in this trade since 1987. We design, quote and install from our shop in Langley, and Vancouver has been part of our service area the whole time.

These are the things that change the design before anyone talks about colours and finishes.

Small lots, longer spans
City lots leave far less room than the suburbs, and a lot of our Vancouver work sits over a narrow deck, a side yard or a laneway-house patio. Aluminum carries a span on fewer posts than timber, so a cover can fit without swallowing the usable space around it.

Keeping the light
North-facing yards and close neighbours mean a solid roof can leave the room behind it noticeably darker. Glass and polycarbonate roofing is usually the answer in the city — it takes the rain off the patio without turning the kitchen into a cave.

Character homes and awkward rooflines
Vancouver's older housing stock rarely offers a clean, straight fascia to attach to. We measure on site and design to the roofline you actually have — including freestanding structures where attaching to the house is not the right call.

Strata approvals and paperwork
Townhouse and duplex owners generally need strata sign-off before anything is ordered, and requirements differ between municipalities. We tell you what your build involves and what you will need to apply for, so nothing stalls after the materials arrive.
