Squamish

Why people here call us

Squamish has wind that the rest of the region simply does not, and it is the first thing we design around. An outflow day puts real force on anything with a roof, and a structure specified for a Vancouver back yard would be the wrong structure to put up here.

We have been building for West Coast conditions since 1987, out of our shop in Langley. Squamish is the northern end of our service area and somewhere the engineering genuinely earns its keep.

On the ground

What building here actually involves

These are the things that change the design before anyone talks about colours and finishes.

01

Wind is the design brief

Squamish outflow winds are strong, frequent and well documented, and a patio roof is a large surface for them to lift. Uplift restraint, post spacing, footing depth and fastener specification are all driven by that here — it is not a box ticked at the end.

02

Screens that know when to retract

Motorized screens are wonderful in a Squamish summer and vulnerable in a Squamish gust. Wind sensors are not an upsell on this stretch of the highway; they are what stops a screen being destroyed by weather it was never meant to stand in.

03

Sea-to-Sky snow load

Winter here is not coastal winter. Snow accumulates and it stays, so roofs are engineered to a higher load than the same structure would need in the city, with a slope that sheds rather than holds.

04

Built for the view

People are in Squamish for what is around them. Clear spans, posts kept to the edges and glass roofing preserve the outlook that a heavily framed cover would quietly close in — and the engineering for wind has to be achieved without giving that up.

All FAQs

Do you build in Squamish?

Yes. It is the northern end of our service area. The structures are fabricated at our Langley shop and the crews install up the Sea-to-Sky.
It is engineered to. Wind is the dominant design load here, so uplift restraint, post spacing and footings are all specified for it — noticeably heavier than the same cover would be in the city.
Not at all, provided they have wind sensors so they retract on their own. Without them, a screen left down in an outflow wind is at real risk. We would fit them here as a matter of course.
Yes. Sea-to-Sky snow load is higher than on the coast, so the roof carries more support and a slope that sheds. It is the same product, specified for where it is going.
It depends on the structure and the property, and requirements are not the same in every municipality. We go through what your specific build involves at the quoting stage and tell you what you will need to apply for.
