Abbotsford summers are the hottest and driest in the Lower Mainland, and that changes what people ask us for. Sun first, rain second
The valley gets noticeably more summer heat and less cloud than the coast. An insulated roof keeps the space usable through an August afternoon in a way a glass one will not, and adjustable louvres let you have both — open for the spring, closed when the sun is on the deck.

Room to build properly
Lots out here are generous, and a lot of what we build is freestanding rather than bolted to the house. That frees the design from the roofline entirely: the structure goes where the shade is needed, at the height that suits it, with posts where they are least in the way.

Wind down the valley
The Fraser Valley funnels wind, and an open patio cover is a large flat surface for it to push on. Post spacing, footing depth and fastener choice all follow from that, and motorized screens get sensors so they retract rather than take a gust broadside.

Acreage and ALR paperwork
Plenty of Abbotsford property is agricultural or semi-rural, and what you can put where is not the same as it is on a city lot. We go through the requirements for your specific address at the quoting stage, so nothing is discovered after the materials are on site.
