Why people here call us
Richmond is flat, open and built on delta soil, and all three of those show up in the engineering. There is nothing between an open Richmond back yard and the wind off the water, the water table sits high enough to matter to the footings, and the newer neighbourhoods come with a strata to satisfy before anything is ordered.
Atlas Sun Systems has been in this trade since 1987, designing, quoting and installing from our Langley shop. Richmond has been part of the area we cover throughout.

These are the things that change the design before anyone talks about colours and finishes.

Footings on delta soil
Richmond ground is not the ground the rest of the region sits on. A high water table and soft soil change what a footing has to be, and that is worked out for your address rather than taken from a standard detail — it is the part of the build nobody sees and everybody relies on.

Wind with nothing in the way
A flat, open lot near the water gives wind a clear run at a large flat roof. Post spacing, uplift restraint and fastener choice all follow from that exposure, and screens are specified to retract rather than to resist.

Strata approval in the newer areas
Much of Richmond's newer housing is townhouse and duplex under a strata council, and approval comes before ordering. We supply the drawings, product data and finishes your council will want, early enough that they are not what holds the build up.

Sun on an unshaded lot
With no mature trees and no slope, a Richmond patio takes whatever the sky gives it. That is a gift in March and a problem in July, which is why louvred roofs and motorized side screens do more work here than they do in a shaded yard.
