Port Coquitlam

Why people here call us

Port Coquitlam is family housing on flat, generous lots, and the outdoor spaces reflect that — a big back yard, a patio door off the kitchen, and a barbecue that gets rained on eight months of the year. Most of what we build here is simply about making that yard usable in the seasons it currently is not.

We have been designing and installing outdoor structures since 1987, all of it out of our shop in Langley. Port Coquitlam is a short run up the highway and a regular part of our week.

On the ground

What building here actually involves

These are the things that change the design before anyone talks about colours and finishes.

01

Flat ground, straightforward builds

Level lots make for the most predictable structures we build: footings go where the design wants them, posts are all the same length, and the cover sits square to the house. That predictability is what keeps a Port Coquitlam job short.

02

Sized for how the yard is used

These are yards that hold a table, a barbecue and usually children. Covering a token strip by the back door misses the point — we size the structure to the way the space is actually used, which is normally larger than people first ask for.

03

Rain off the everyday things

The practical wins here are unglamorous and immediate: a dry barbecue, a dry route from the door to the car, somewhere the kids can be outside in November. Gutters and downpipes get planned so the water leaves where you want it to.

04

Light through the winter

A back yard that faces the house across a flat lot has no other source of daylight, so a solid roof right against the building can dull the kitchen. Where that is a risk, glass or polycarbonate panels over the section nearest the house solve it.

Do you build in Port Coquitlam?

Regularly. It is a short run from our Langley shop, where the structures are put together before the crews bring them out.
Bigger than most people first suggest, usually. We size it to how the yard is actually used — table, barbecue, a route to the door — rather than to a strip along the back wall, and we work that out on site with you.
It can, if the roof is solid and sits tight against the house. Glass or polycarbonate over the section closest to the building keeps the daylight while the rest of the cover stays solid.
Usually, yes. Where the water goes once it leaves the new roof is part of the design, and we would rather agree that with you than leave a downpipe emptying somewhere inconvenient.
It depends on the structure and the property, and requirements are not the same in every municipality. We go through what your specific build involves at the quoting stage and tell you what you will need to apply for.
